"The game is so big, I don't know that there's anybody on the team that knows all of it," Nelson said in an exclusive interview with IGN at Rockstar North in Edinburgh.

He compared the game's open world to Red Dead Redemption 2, saying there's "a whole lot of stuff that you discover emergently that we're not necessarily directing you to through objectives or blips or icons on a map." His advice for players: "If you take a bit of time and explore you will be rewarded – a lot. It's a big map, a very big map."

Nelson also told IGN that the team has worked to make Leonida "the largest, deepest, most densely populated and complex world we have ever built for people to get lost in."

The comments are from IGN's interview at Rockstar North, first published in August, and are circulating again this week after Dexerto highlighted them on Oct. 7.

Grand Theft Auto VI is set in Vice City and the state of Leonida, follows Jason and Lucia, and launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
